2019 Orchard Brook Pool Rats Announcements
The following message is from the Orchard Brook Swim Team:
Hello Orchard Brook Homeowners! It’s that time of the year to start thinking about getting back into the water. Orchard Brook Swim Team registration is April 10, 6:00-8:00. Whether your kids have been on the team before or haven’t yet given it a try, we would love to have them. Children ages 5-18 are welcome. There will be a Junior Rats program again this year for the younger ones that just aren’t ready to compete yet but want to come and improve their skills and be part of the team. Junior Rats will need to be able to successfully swim a half length of the pool and will be tested on the first day.
A representative from the company we are using this year for both suits and apparel will be at the clubhouse on April 10th and will have suits to try on and samples of apparel.
You may register after April 10th, however if you register on or before that date you will receive a free Orchard Brook Pool Rat t-shirt. Shirt size orders will be taken that evening and shirts will be available prior to our first meet.
This years practice schedule is different than in years past, please make note:
**10 and younger swimmers will practice 8:00 – 9:00 a.m.
**11 and older swimmers will practice 9:00 -10:00 a.m.
**Junior Rats remain 10:00 – 10:30 a.m.
This year’s meet schedule is slightly different. The Meadows Swim Team in Lisle is back. One more close meet to go to, yippee! Attached is the schedule.
As in years past, we will welcome swimmers from outside the community, within the Belle Aire school district and previous Orchard Brook residents. The will be an additional $25 fee per family for non-residents.
REGISTRATION FEES HAVE NOT BEEN SET YET.
There will be an OB Board meeting on April 3rd at 8:00 p.m. to discuss issues pertaining to the swim team that may impact fees.
Depending on the outcome of the discussions, the new registration fees may be:
1 swimmer = $160
2nd swimmer = $150
Family Cap = $385 (all additional children free)
Swimmers 15 years of age and older = $85
Junior Rats, no change.
Registration forms will be available on April 4th, once registration fees are known. Thank you for your patience with this.
There are several “Special Jobs” that we need help with and a list of those jobs will be available at registration. These jobs are necessary in order to run a meet so you’re help is greatly appreciated. Additionally, as in years past, it is required that each family works 5 meets.
One last note, a retainer check in the amount of $150 will be required to ensure that all families do their part and volunteer at meets. We need all hands on deck during these meets in order for them to take place. We truly do not want your money, rather your help. If you are not able to work your required volunteer time, consider hiring a teenager or lifeguard you know to work for you. We love shredding all checks at the end of the season, and don’t want to cash any. Thank you for your understanding.

About the Pool Rats…
The Orchard Brook Pool Rats Swim Team is open to children in the subdivision age 5 through 18. Kids can be part of a fun and competitive swim team right in their own neighborhood. Our swim team is part of the summer-only Trident Swim Conference, which consists of eight swim teams from other subdivisions and home associations in DuPage County. The season begins in early June and ends in an all-teams conference meet in late July.
The Pool Rats are coached by young people in our community who participate on their high school or college swim teams and have a strong desire to work with our children. The team is managed by an Orchard Brook home owner who volunteers to oversee the team and coaches for the summer. Additionally, parents contribute their time and talent to running swim meets and helping with team events.
Registration fees and mandatory fundraising cover the many expenses of the team (conference dues, coaches’ salaries, swim meet supplies, etc.) and a few fun things too, like awards night.
Practices for Pool Rats are held every weekday morning. Swim meets are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
